Corks were popping on Nov. 4, 2019 while confréres and consoeurs, along with guests, were handed flutes of Veuve Cliquot Champagne as the diners gathered in the charming patio of Le Clos in Fernandina Beach. The overhead arbor of flowering vines in Le Clos’s beautiful herb garden provided a cozy outdoor atmosphere in this 1906 French cottage. The conversation and the Champagne sparkled while the attendees sat enjoying pork and liver pate finished with cream, cognac, and parsley with cornichons and a crusty baguette.

Owner/Chef Katherine Ewing who holds degrees in pastry and cuisine from Cordon Bleu and the Ritz-Escoffier in Paris presented a menu that was uncompromisingly French. With each course the quality of the food equaled the charm of the atmosphere. Guests provided their own wine to accompany the classically inspired Provencal fare.

Illustrious guests included Commandeur Richard Smith, Echanson Provincial, South Central Region and Dame Sherri Smith of Peachtree Atlanta and Robert Fallis, Vice Conseiller Gastronomique of Greenville, South Carolina.

The evening came to a close as Bailli Ross Griffin presented Chef Ewing and her staff with a commemorative plaque and kudos for a delightfully French inspired dining event.
