On Saturday, Oct. 22, 2018, Lac et des Bois Eschanson Terry Mathis and his wife, Dame Janie Mathis, opened their lovely home to Mondiale members and their guests for an evening of paired appetizers with Italian wines. The wine tasting, sponsored by Carlos Flores, the Italian wine specialist for Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits, allowed attendees to not only enjoy these special wines at the tasting, but also offered them the opportunity to purchase these fabulous wines with below retail pricing so that the wines could be enjoyed later at home!

Terry and Carlos created a tasting that showcased classic favorites from the Tuscany and the Piedmont regions along with a few surprises, such as a super Tuscan made in the heart of Chianti, 2011 Querciabella ‘Turpino’. They also introduced a Sicilian grape Nerello Mascalese, grown on the volcanic slopes of Mt. Etna produced by the Cusumano Family, Alta Mora ‘Enta Rosso’.

With the introduction of each wine, Carlos discussed its characteristics along with personal remarks about the producer, the family and the vineyard. While enjoying the wines, guests were treated to both hot and cold appetizers, prepared by Lac et des Bois Bailli Cheryl Kenny, Dana Kummins and Ryan Barrett. The appetizers were specially selected and prepared to bring out the unique and familiar qualities of these beloved Italian wines and represented the perfect blend of food and wine with the added seasoning of Mondiale camaraderie.
