In ancient Greece, the symposium was a part of a banquet that took place after the meal, when drinking for pleasure was accompanied by music, dancing, recitals, or conversation.
On Nov. 5, 2018, the Seattle Bailliage new Vice Conseiller Gastronomique, Betty Sasenick, started her second event with the idea of creating a theme – the Greek Symposium! The scene took place at Omega Ouzeri on Capitol Hill. Omega is unique in its approach; the owners Thomas and Rebecca Soukakos wanted to bring traditional Greek recipes around the long-standing tradition of “meze” when exceptional food to be shared by everyone around the table with ouzo and wine, in a more upscale setting.
At its roots, ouzeris were the place for the workmen to gather and share small bites of simple fare with ouzo but today these Greek meze have become more elaborate. At Omega Ouzeri there are small tables for intimate conversation as well as communal tables for lively connections. There is a dynamic open-air kitchen, uniquely Greek spirited bar, a private party mezzanine space where the Symposium was held, and a large outdoor area, the perfect place to showcase Rebecca and Thomas’ passion for redefining traditional Greek recipes.
Omega Ouzeri Authentic Greek food breaks the barriers to Greek wines. A wonderful time for all, Via La Chaine!
