Paisans and made men, gun molls and comáres met at Osteria Tulia on Oct. 25, 2018 to celebrate the cuisine and wines of Sicily. As befits a Godfather theme, gentlemen were attired in fedoras, vests, black shirts with light ties, or pinstripe suits, while ladies came bejeweled and in 20s fringe dresses, or tight skirts with slits, and lots of boas. One creative guest dressed as a cigarette girl, complete with the tray. A gorgeous restored Model A Ford, courtesy of Rudy Socey, was parked in front, setting the mood and providing an appropriate backdrop for wise guys and their gals.

The Dinner Captain coordinating the event was board Director-at-Large Suzette Fernandes while the decor was created by Dinner Committee members Bailli Honoraire Lacey King and Dame Renée Osborne. The tables were decorated with black tablecloths, black and white striped runners and red napkins. Red candles were set in Chianti bottles, cards and dice were scattered on the tables. “The Godfather” movie played in the background and a musician strolled through the dining room, serenading us with romantic Italian canzoni.

Chef Vincenzo Betulia highlighted the cuisine of his homeland. Board Director-at-Large Tim Evankovich brilliantly paired wines from Etna DOC and other Italian denominazione, and provided descriptive Wine Notes featuring a map of Sicily displaying the location of its wine regions.
All Mafiosi must have observed omertà, since we were able to enjoy our evening without the interference of Elliott Ness or other Untouchables.
